Tlaxcal Cantina & Taqueria Gastronomica – Authentic Mexican Flavors in Barcelona’s Ciutat Vella

I love this place and go every time I’m in BCN (3-4) times a year. The fish or steak tacos are outstanding. Authentic, with big flavors and textures and good portion sizes. The seafood tostadas are phenomenal — loaded with fresh fish and shrimp and have a delicious spicy kick. The nachos are excellent; one order easily covers two people. Add a couple of tap beers that pair perfectly with essentially anything on the menu and it’s pretty much the perfect meal. This place is popular so make a reservation or be ready to wait. Still, the staff is very friendly and attentive and try to accommodate everyone to the best they can. The vibe here is high energy, and you’ll see people from diverse backgrounds dining, from tourists, to locals, to couples on their first date to families. Honestly, I would eat both lunch and dinner here if their dinner start time wasn’t so Spanish

Last night, we had the most delightful dining experience at Tlaxcal Mexican restaurant! Our culinary journey began with the most exquisite Margaritas - I opted for the luscious Mango Margarita, while my companion savored the tantalizing Mango Mezcalita. The flavors were simply exceptional, leaving us feeling refreshed and invigorated. Moving on to our dinner entrees, the dinner was a learning experience for me. I chose the Alambras tacos, a dish that turned out to be a bit of a surprise, as I had never ordered it before. The dish consisted of three small corn tortillas layered with grilled chicken, onions, green and red peppers, and was smothered with melted Oaxaca cheese. While the cheese bath was much richer than expected or desirable, I learned that this was the authentic way these tacos are prepared. A quick Google search later, I found out that Alambra Tacos are indeed a unique and flavorful Mexican delicacy prepared in this manner - just not my preference. Meanwhile, my dining companion opted for the Tacos De Cochinita Pibil - a traditional dish from the Yucatan Peninsula. The slow-cooked pork, marinated in zesty citrus juices, achiote paste, and a medley of spices, resulted in tender, succulent meat bursting with flavor. Served alongside warm tortillas and an array of delectable salsas, it was a true winner. The service at Tlaxcal was excellent. The server was polite and attentive. Reflecting on the evening, I realized the importance of asking questions about unfamiliar dishes before ordering. With Tlaxcal's diverse and enticing menu, we are excited to return and explore more of their culinary delights in the near future.

This is my first experience about Mexican foods. It was really amazing, so they have very delicious chicken (taco). I've never eaten anything like this before. The waiters are attentive and kind. A good place to try traditional Mexican foods.
